Interview Preparation

PREPARE, PREPARE

Preparation for the interview is the most critical piece of the interview puzzle. The more you work on your preparedness the better your interview will go. Many of my best clients will study for up to 30 hours in preparation for a single interview. In the industry we tell our clients that it takes about 7 interviews to land one job. Those that prepare to a great extent will get 4 or 5 offers in those seven interviews. Here are several tips for preparing.

Know the company’s stock price.Who are the company’s largest competitors?

What is the company’s history?
How long has the person you are interviewing with been in the company?
What do people love the most about working for that company?
What is the competitive advantage this company has over competitors?
What are the company taboos?
Who is the leader of the company and what is their vision?
How many people would you be supervising?
What is the largest problem currently facing the employer and why are you a solution to that problem?

Looking on the web for the questions employers ask most often and preparing for those questions can augment your interviewing skills. Some of my clients have gone as far as taking over 50 possible interview questions and following my STARS method or another interview protocol prepared written answers. The prepared them to the point that they knew their stories and could relate them to any questions they might face.
