Networking Works
Over 80% of jobs come from a person using their own or another person’s network to assist them. Because it is easy to apply to a job on the web through Monster or Hotjobs we often will just throw our resume at postings found on the internet for hours on end. I had one client that had posted their resume to over 400 jobs on the internet and received one phone interview. She was not invited for a second interview. She then came to me for help. After assessing her situation it was clear she was not using her greatest asset, her network. She went to her bunko group (Friday night ladies group) and talked of her current job search. One person in the group was actually hiring for a position that fit the skill set of my client. The irony is that the person that gave her the job wasn’t even a regular part of the ladies group. She was only an invited guest for the evening. This is the precise magic of networking. You just never know whom you will talk to that will open up the door of your future.
